The Underappreciated Winner: In Praise of Humble Windows
Posted on October 31, 2009 by Ben with View CommentsWindows XP came out in 2001, to much of the same criticisms as Windows Vista. Its “new and revolutionary” interface was criticized as being clutterful and having LUA (Least User Access) bugs. Windows XP was loathed when it came out. It was hated for being too different from the norm, for forcing users to change how they looked at a computer, for simplifying the desktop. But there is a strange familiarity that echoes through the “horrible” OS whenever I boot it up, just as there is for most people. There are reasons that I will never completely leave Windows for Mac or Ubuntu.

EDITED: Admoni – Red or more?
Posted on October 15, 2009 by Ben with View CommentsEDIT: regarding clarification. I used the wrong term to describe what the Torah may be suggesting. I do not mean insanity plea. The proper phrase should be “pleas regarding uncontrollable factors such as pre-existing medical conditions (tumors on adrenaline gland, perhaps, or anger management problems) or society issues.
Admoni. This word is used to describe only two people in Tanach (Torah, Neviim (Prophets), and Ketuvim (Writings))
These two people are David haMelech (the king) and Esav (Esau).
But what is the significance?
Maybe the Torah is against the insanity/medical issue plea (aka in court).
Why do I say this?
David haMelech was one of the greatest kings, if not the greatest king, of Judea, yet Esau nearly killed his brother.
Yet they both had the quality of ”Admoni, ” which our commentators take to mean a sense of ’red blood,’ a need to kill.
David was able to channel his “Admoni”-ness, Esau was not. Is this a statement against the insanity plea? I’ll let you decide.

Ignorance Is Bliss
Posted on August 9, 2009 by Ben with View CommentsIgnorance is Bliss
It would be bliss if I didn’t know what had gone on
If I had never heard of the killings of Vietnam
And then I would never know that the world is so wrong
And I could just sit at home and just listen to the song
By Jack Johnson, about banana pancakes
And sit at home, snacking on frosted flakes
-chorus?-
My biggest problems would be what I view as small mistakes
Like spilling the milk, but I would cry for days
But I would never know of corruption and its ways
And I would be bliss, living in a child’s phase
And my whole life I would be in a haze,
About what is real, but it wouldn’t be a big deal
-chorus?-
I would worry about what is for the next meal
Not if I would eat, but what it would be
Starvation would never been heard of by me
And I would be chill, and I would never have to see,
That people die everyday by genocide,
Or that people pop cyanide for suicide
-chorus?-
And the only times I would ever have to hide,
Would be for a game of hide and seek
Now some people will say that this makes me week,
But this would just make me obsolete,
Useless to the world, but the world would be useless to me
If only this is how my life could be!!!
